Han Seung-soo, Co-chair of the International Forum of Friends (IFF), and Lin Jianhai, IFF’s Executive Vice President, have been invited as distinguished guests to participate in the Second High-Level Conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development in Beijing and attended its opening ceremony.

Han renowned for his leadership and extensive contributions to global economic and environmental sustainability, will contribute insights from his vast experience in international diplomacy and policy-making. As Co-chair of the IFF, his participation underscores the forum's commitment to facilitating meaningful dialogue and actionable initiatives in pursuit of global prosperity.

Lin Jianhai, as Executive Vice President, brings valuable expertise in international relations and strategic partnerships to the conference. His involvement highlights the forum's dedication to leveraging collective expertise and resources towards achieving shared development goals across diverse sectors and regions.

The Second High-Level Conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development represents a significant opportunity for stakeholders from government, business, academia, and civil society to collaborate on pressing global challenges.    Party Secretary of Huzhou city meets with IFF Executive VP

Chen Hao, the Secretary of the Huzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party, met with Lin Jianhai, Executive Vice President of the International Finance Forum in Huzhou, Zhejiang on Tuesday.

Chen introduced the city’s green finance development and expressed wish for the IFF to use its international platform to foster green finance reform in the municipality.

Lin thanked the Secretary for its warm reception of the IFF and said the IFF would strengthen communications with Huzhou Municipal Party Committee and Huzhou government and share the city’s green practices to a broader audience.

 China’s economy grows 4.7% in Q2

China’s economy expanded 4.7% in the second quarter of the year from a year ago, official data showed on Tuesday.

Gross domestic product grew 0.7% quarter on quarter. China’s economy grew 5.3% in the first quarter, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed on Monday.

The slower second-quarter growth was attributed to extreme weathers and floods as well as insufficient effective demand.

Chinas exports rose 8.6% year on year in June, customs data showed on Friday.

Imports shrank 2.3% last month from a year ago.

The country’s trade surplus stood at $99.05 billion in June, the highest since 1981.

China’s industrial output rose 5.3% year on year in June, according to official data.

The growth in June slowed from May’s increase of 5.6%.

On a monthly basis, output edged up 0.42% last month.

Output grew 6% in the first six months of the year, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed.

China’s fixed asset investment rose 3.9% in the first half of the year from the same period a year ago, official data showed on Monday.

Investment in the primary and secondary sectors grew 3.1% and 12.6% in the period while investment in the tertiary sector fell 0.2%.

China’s retail sales rise 2% in June

China’s retail sales rose 2% in June from a year ago, down from May’s increase of 3.7%, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed on Monday.

Sales increased 3.7% in the first six months of the year.

Online retail sales went up 9.8% year on year in the first half of the year.

More Chinese cities reported falling home prices in June, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed on Monday.

Of 70 cities surveyed, new home prices fell in the 64 cities and 66 cities saw prices of existing homes drop.

Separate data from the NBS showed investment in the property sector dropped 10.1% in the first six months of year.

The upgrade was due to a rebound in private consumption and strong exports in the first quarter.

Britain’s inflation held steady in June, official data showed on Wednesday.

The consumer prices index (CPI) rose 2% in June from a year ago, the same rate as that of May, data from the Office for National Statistics showed.

The CPI rose 0.1% on a monthly basis.

Restaurants and hotels were the “largest upward contribution to the monthly change” while prices drops from clothing and footwear were the largest downward contribution.

Core inflation rose 3.5% in the 12 months to June 2024.

Canada inflation rose 2.7% year on year in June, down from 2.9% increase in May, official data showed.

Drop in gasoline prices largely contributed to the deceleration, data from Statistics Canada showed.

On a monthly basis, the CPI fell 0.1% in June, according to the data.

JD Vance named as Trump’s running mate

Donald Trump named Ohio Senator JD Vance as his vice presidential nominee, the former President and Republican presidential candidate announced on social media on Monday.

Vance, 39, worked as a venture capitalist before joining the Senate.

Since joining the Senate, he has embraced the populist brand of conservatism, calling for tougher immigration polices and supporting tariff increases proposed by Trump.

A native of Ohio, Vance is the author of a popular memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, which tells his blue-collar upbringing.
