International Finance Forum (IFF) Co-Chair Han Seung-soo, who is also Chair of the Council of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly (UNCPGA) and former Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, is participating in the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 79), which runs from September 10 to 30 in New York. Han also attended an UNCGPA meeting on September 22 to discuss the highly anticipated Summit of the Future, which underscores the urgent need for enhanced international cooperation to address pressing challenges such as climate change, poverty and inequality, while also tackling the impacts of ongoing conflicts and global health crises.
The summit, staged concurrently with UNGA79, pledges that “We will take bold, ambitious, accelerated, just and transformative actions to implement the 2030 Agenda, achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and leave no one behind,” as its first and foremost action.
UNGA 79 thus marks a crucial milestone in the global effort to accelerate progress towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the UN Environment Programme. The UN Department of Global Communications will also hold its flagship SDG Media Zone during the high-level week of September 23 to 27, with impactful in-depth interviews and dialogs on global issues that matter to people everywhere.
The first day of the high-level General Debate will be September 24, and it will continue through September 28, and conclude on September 30. The UN General Assembly will also convene a High-Level Meeting on antimicrobial resistance on September 26.
