Fostering the Fight Against Climate Change: Regulation and Incentives
AUTHOR:IFF

Most actions to fight global warming and contribute to the success of the energy transition can be split between those which belong to regulatory decisions and those which are incentives to foster behaviours of households and firms, and therefore that apply to market activities.
Needless to say that many cases (public infrastructure, private investment in renewables, promotion of green hydrogen…) would artificially be classified in one of these two categories. Furthermore, the border between regulation and incentives is often blurry. Nevertheless, this distinction is analytically useful and makes sense in policymaking.
This event co-organised by the International Finance Forum (IFF), the European Task Force on Carbon Pricing in Europe and the American Paulson Institute intends to discuss the use of these two techniques with a focus on the three blocks: the US, China and Europe. The first session will deal with regulation and the second with market incentives.
